As you all know from the previous post, I spilled the beans on my mama's birthday... Yup, on the 1st of Aug, we celebrated my mother's XX birthday, not telling... I guess we should respect that age is women's best kept secret, not like its censored in you IC. *Rolls eyes*
ANYWAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUMMY!Ok, so what was installed for the-lady-of-my-life's(Currently) big day?? As always, there is the usual FINE DINING. With limited restaurants in the Island, I went on a roll to get as many as possible. Of course we got the best of the best... Its kinda sad to see that some of the restaurants which we had before that is worth going again had to close down. For example, last year's Brazil 68... Penangnites, you guys should start to learn how to appreciate fine dining or else it might not bring Penang to a top notch level. Penang is known as "heaven of food" should we also add in some variety to it? Like -Cuisine-, ring a bell??
i hope that ain't too much to ask of you people... hahaha... well, its kinda too much, but slowly the spending power will grow... too bad we're facing inflation! Darn it!
Anyway, we finally decide to go to
Audees, and it is my first...
here is a review...
the overall ambiance was ok, except for the huge number of mosquitoes! The management should do something about it. Within 5 minutes of our arrival, I already felt itches(there is no exaggeration intended) The lighting was just nice. And it also had a live Jazz Band upstairs, which was blaring all the way down to where we were. To be honest, the I like jazz, but that band that night just scared the gitters outta me. Comprising of men in their mid 50s to early 60s, they totally killed many songs... And to my surprise, the sang "Beautiful Girls" by Sean Kingston, if that chubby guy already murdered me with his own song, imagine someone else singing it a million times worst.... But it proved to be somewhat entertaining in terms of laughter...
Down to the food, having dine in some of the best restaurants in Penang, I still think that Mansion 32 is still by far the top charting one. It still sits high on its throne. i still havent been able to get a spot for Ferrighi Grill because I havent been there although there has been high recommendations.
back to Audees. The food wasnt up to par for a fine dining restaurant. the escargots were just not right, it wasnt "cheese-ed" but it was buttered... It was no where near those served at The Ship. but I must say, the presentation of the food was just nice... Comparing to a Chinese restaurant called Forum(also very art-sy), it really has a spot somewhere...
Anyway, we started the meal in good conditions. Served course by course. Somehow we kinda learnt that the chef really like to use sugar. His soup was rather sweet and so was his main dishes...
Anyway, mum believes that the vegetables were overcooked, so did I. And there wasnt much variety for the greens, it was always the same... No matter what you ordered. Dad had lamb, i think. Shannon had Salmon on a stick. I had game, ostrich, because they serve too much seafood, and as you know, i'm not much of a fan to them due to my allergies... And mum has Spring Chicken....
Overall i wasnt very much impressed will desert. Where I had my Irish Bailey's Ice Cream which was just right. What a sweet tooth I am, hitting all the right taste buds...
If we were to rate the restaurant. For fine dining standards, with 10 at the highest, I think it just manage a poor 4, with most of them scored due to presentations...
my sliced beef salad
The not up to par Escargots
The mushroom soup that is a little sweet
Shannon's Selmon on a Stick
my so not mouth-watering Ostrich
