On the 21st of July, which was also Ashie's Bday which I missed he gathering all because I went for a Radion DJ talent search contest. The contest which I was pushed to join by some of my friends and later got interested. It was one great expirience and I intend to strive till the very end!
The day started off lonely as I was the only representative from CLHS, I was surrounded by a lot off people, with some I barely know and mostly strangers. We started off with registration where a total of 29 contestants who were selected. After that we were lead up to a lecture hall by a bunch of students who later turn out to be mentors. ( there is a 3 mentee to 1 mentor thingy going on). We even got goodie backs that contained a LEVI'S Tee Shirt worth RM50+! We will have to wear that PINK tee for the competition!
SO the lecture about DJ and Radio DJ started around 9.20am. The intoduction was made by Ken, lecturer in KDU. He introduced what DJ is and the ethics of one and more stuff about it. Then, all the contestants were asked to intorduced themselves one by one, to him, other contestants and the mentors. There were many who did a very simple introduction but there were some like me who did extras while introducing ourselves and got roars and cheers from the over extroverts - the mentors!
Soon Breakfast was served after the introduction, it was then people started approaching me and I started making new friends, so things started out well, no more loneliness. I met people who were from as far as Bukit Mertajam. It was really awesome. The greating about going alone, is that you're forced to make new friends(Kazvyn, David, Stephen, Monica, Mitchelle, Yiao, Eleya etc), and I love making new ones!
After breakfast, lectures continued and this time, I stared to showcase my cheeky side by asking questions and bombarding some weird ones as well. Soon after it was the luch time. It was then, the mentors slowly approached me one by one. And everything went great. Loved how they treated me, and it was great having to know them and speak to them. They turn out to be really cool friends. The include Justin, Adrienne, Wendy, Wanida, Deborah, Joselyn, Winnie, Enrique, Micheal, Tsu(didnt really talk to Tsu)
After lunch, we were divided into groups of 3 and we all have a mentor. Mine was none other than Adrienne, she got the looks and talent and is really out spoken, so I'm proud that I'm under her (but i still get extra help frm the others). After being divided, we started off learning on structures of a radio show, how to run one yourself, basic annoucing skills and script writing. It was also brain storming time where each and everyone of us had to contribute some knowledge.
OH YA, my other two team mates cum enemy(coz they are still my competition) are Yiao and Mitchelle! Both of them are really cute and hilarious at the same time!
After that, we practiced and practiced and off we went to check out the recording studio, that is where I met my pal for the next few weeks (DJ Console). The recording studio was really up to standards, being it the best in the nothern region, I was hounoured to be able to be there and learn so much about those expensive gadgets in there. Soon after we all got our turn to run our show and work our hands on the console...
At first I got really frustrated cause you really need to focus and when you panic you tend to press the wrong button and everything goes hay-wire! It was really fun and cool, so cool even ice cubes are jealous!
They day ended with more practice with scripts and DJ Consoles and more talking and swapping of phone numbers and emails.
I'll be seeing all of them for the next few weeks and hopefully for the years to come cause most of them turn out to be great friends...
The competition has just begun!
PS:Wish me luck!
